With today’s escalating fuel prices, it’s the time when drivers should focus on simple things like proper tire pressure & care to maximize performance & increase fuel economy. Drivers & car owners can actually increase fuel economy & life of their tires by paying more attention to them. Tires that are under-inflated by 6-7psi will have an increased tire rolling resistance by 10% or more, increased tread wear rates & tire fatigue. Tires must be properly inflated to boost mileage as they influence the braking, steering, comfort, handling, fuel efficiency, & driving safety of your vehicle, yet, they’re often ignored or misunderstood by many.
These tips are really very helpful & true enough, I myself tend to ignore the importance of having healthy tires, too. Tires pound over potholes, careen off curbs & screech to a halt, & still they’ve been paid less attention with. Misaligned tires can cause the car to drag which lowers mileage & causes unnecessary tire wear, so, it’s important that tire alignment must be checked once a year. Also, we must rotate the tires at least every 6k-8k miles & regularly check if the air pressure of your spare tire is okay in case of emergency. (Re-posted.)
