Holography is derived from the Greek words “Holo” which means whole and “graphy” means writing or drawing. It is a technique that allows the light scattered from an object to be recorded and reconstructed so that it appears as if the object is in the same position relative to the recording medium as it was when recorded thus creating holographic sights. The shooter may move his gun to the left or right but still is pointed to the target. It is different from the conventional scope because what we see in the holographic sight is not real. It is a reconstruction of the view. The reticle that we see in the view is not actually in the sight, it is the projection of the reticle image. When the holographic sight is attached to the gun, a laser beam is projected along the same axis as the gun. Holographic weapon sights are very popular to most gun shooters as they give them a quick lock on their target.
