Orchids comprise the largest family of flowering plants on the planet. The advantage of growing orchids indoors is that you’ll get to see and enjoy your orchids’ beauty everyday as well as being able to see their environmental condition. And if you provide your orchids the proper environment, light, temperature, and humidity, you’ll surely be rewarded with fabulous blooms. The moth orchid, Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, and Dendrobium species of orchids can adapt fairly well to being grown indoors. However, orchids are susceptible to diseases like leaf spots, petal blight, bacterial soft rot, and many different viruses; as well as common insect pests such as mealybugs, spider mites, scales, and thrips. So, it’s very important to pay attention to the needs of these plants and providing them with adequate light, moisture, air circulation, and fertilizer will in return reward you with beautiful, long-lasting flowers.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when growing orchids — i) If the air temperature is cool, then the orchids need less water and light. ii) If the humidity is high, then the orchids need more air circulation. iii) If the light is very bright and/or the temperature is high, then the humidity needs to be high. iv) When your orchids are not actively growing, you must reduce or stop fertilizing. v) If the temperatures are high, then the light and humidity also need to be high and the orchids will require more-frequent watering.
