Thailand’s Ministry of Energy will include in their policies the promotion of biodiesel B5 consumption as an alternative fuel following the sale of B2 last Feb. 1 ‘08.

Biodiesel B2 has 2% pure biodiesel content and has helped the kingdom save THB 20 million per day of oil imports. Biodiesel B5 has 5% biodiesel content and the use of it will generate savings of THB 50 million per day (or THB 17 billion per year).

Diesel imports are estimated to drop by 900 million li/yr (or THB 25 billion) if B5 totally replaces the common diesel fuel.

This seems to be a very good news for all motorists and related industries since the fuel prices don’t seem to stop rising. When the fuel price is high, travel expenses are high, too. And since I’m on my way to my annual vacation overseas very shortly, rising fuel prices would mean mean higher air fares and other travel-related expenses for me to bear as well. So, it’s good that biodiesel will be promoted by the government itself and I hope that the Philippine government and the rest will follow suit, in case they have not already done so.

Let’s go green and start saving!
