Anagrams, snatch, snatch-words, or grabscrab according to Wikipedia is a board-free word game that involves rearranging letter tiles to form new words. I’d do this (or word building) whenever I’m caught in the middle of nothing – it is an amusement of great antiquity that was believed to be invented by the Greek poet Lycophron. Can I call myself an anagrammatist? Not yet! Okay, try this! Dormitory (Dirty room), Slot Machines (Cash lost in me), Eleven plus two (Twelve plus one), A decimal point (I’m a dot in place), The Eyes (They see), and saltine (entails). If you rearrange the word “astronomer”, you’ll get “moon starer” but if you can’t spell well, you’ll end up with “snmatorreo” — hehe. The well-known anagram so far is the “Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum” (Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord [is] with you) and “Virgo serena, pia, munda et immaculata” (Serene virgin, pious, clean and spotless).
How about apposite name anagrams? E.g., Margaret Thatcher (That great charmer), Alec Guinness (Genuine Class), Elvis Aaron Presley (Seen alive? Sorry, pal!), Vin Diesel (I End Lives), Steve Martin (I’m star event), or Clint Eastwood (Old West Action), George Bush (He bugs Gore), Madonna Louise Ciccone (Occasional nude income), William Shakespeare (I am a weakish speller), Roger Meddows-Taylor (Great words or melody), and Death Magnetic (I can’t Megadeth). Wiki says that an anagram (Greek anagramma ‘letters written anew’) is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new word or phrase, using all the original letters exactly once. This is how I kill my time especially during long waits at the bus stations or airports!
