Nectec is again head on with their plans to develop an electronic system to help the farmers and durian growers predict the date when durian is already ripe and ready for eating. Such invention is called the e-nose technology which imitates the abilities of the human nose to detect and recognize odours. Lovely!

With e-nose, quality checks on wine, meat, vegetable, fish, rice, and coffee beans can also be done. It helps the farmers ascertain the fruit’s freshness and age on the field with the use of an electronic sensing device.

So, it’s high time that we take action and make our backyards green with vegetables and fruits since an age sensing device has been invented to facilitate proper detection of ripeness. My grandma’s durian trees do not necessarily require the said device for now since before a fruit even turns little bit yellowish/brownish, the fruit has already been harvested. Only when we go for massive production then we can make use of this new e-nose technology to sniff out the ripe fruits.
