Not all managers are good leaders and not all leaders are good managers. To be an effective manager, you have got to possess certain managerial behaviors and qualities that would identify you as one among the rest of your fellow workers in the department. And especially if you are in the service industry, it is just important to instill necessary service-mind qualities unto the staff to be able to deliver better services to the clients.
A manager should coach his team to seek and communicate customer needs and feedback throughout customer dealings, should take ownership of the team’s customer satisfaction-providing record, and follow through on problems and new service initiatives with the team through hands-on management. If there are problems, immediate action should be taken to correct the situation to avoid it from becoming more severe. One more important thing for a manager to do is also to celebrate the team’s successes and recognize each team member’s important contribution to the outstanding customer service.
A good service-minded manager must make it known to his team that he regards internal and external customers as the most important people in the organization. To be an effective service-minded manager, be a visible customer service role model yourself within your team.
