Apart from the famous remains of Spain in Ozamiz City-Philippines, the “Fort Santiago”, comes another tourist attraction right at the heart of the city — the equally famous “Pipe Organ”. It can be found in the choir loft of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral (“Cathedral”). The Cathedral is an excellent home for the pipe organ having perfect acoustics and deserves an organ which an expert describes as “the largest and finest organ in the Philippines”. The organ is the only existing pipe organ in Mindanao and the
2nd largest in the Philippines. The huge instrument took 2 years to build and was brought over by sea from Germany in 23 crates. All electrical connections were of silver while the chest and the console were of white oak. The organ has 1,936 pipes — 1,512 of which are lute pipes and 424 are reeds, and the largest pipes and lead are only few inches long. The console has 3 keyboards, 2 of which are manuals and 1 pedal. The organ has 30 stops, equipped with an electric blower and is completely noiseless.
