dsc_0127.JPGdsc_0050.JPGWhy plant trees? Conscious of the effects of carbon emissions on the environment, Thaicom staffs tried to redress the balance by planting trees…& so we went tree-planting last Sunday afternoon. We try to help offset the carbon produced by motor vehicles, factories, planes, etc. by planting more trees. We encourage the practice because apart from helping to reduce the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere & tackle climate change, the trees can serve as good protection from calamities & can also become good sources of precious wood for future generations. While the whole wide world is looking for solutions to the biggest problem we’ve ever faced & while the long life cycle of trees means that planting them now will not have an immediate effect, yet, the most important thing to understand about tree-planting is that you’re not only doing it for yourself but for others as well in the future. Planting a tree is an opportunity for us to put something back into the environment & encourage birds, insects & other creatures into our habitat. The Ecological Benefits of Trees–making us aware of the ecological benefits of trees will give us extra pride in our own planting & a good grounding on how they can protect & preserve the environment through caring for existing trees & 2-042.jpgplanting new ones.
Here are some amazing tree facts!
- in a year, an average tree can remove 1 ton of carbon dioxide from the air.
- through transpiration, a mature tree can pump 100 gallons of water from the ground & expel it into the air.
- hospital patients are said to recover faster when they have a room that looks out onto trees.
- a family of 4 can get all the oxygen they need for a whole year from just one average mature tree.
- trees help cool the earth down by cooling the ground and air around them. http://www.ecofriendlykids.co.uk/PlantingTree.html
